On February 1, SPHERE Technology Solutions hosted a webinar with SailPoint; delivering key information that not only can help secure organizations from breaches, but can also be an incredible asset in an all-encompassing IT security strategy that provides for the ability to protect and enable business.
Today’s threat landscape continues to change and evolve, and leading the charge in data breaches is the human factor, with 43% of breaches caused by ‘insiders’ whether willingly or unwillingly. In addition, with the proliferation of the BYOD movement, $141b estimated to be spent migrating to the cloud in 2019, and 80% of corporate data unstructured, the virtual bookcase stands a better chance of being picked and unlocked, which will lead to more breaches of data.
Orphaned accounts are yet another attack vector for hackers. For example, in the Target data breach the thieves were outsiders, however, they gained entry to the retail chain’s systems by using the credentials of an insider, a vendor. The insider threat is real and cannot be ignored.
Fortunately, if you have the right Identity Management strategy in place, you can mitigate these risks. Up front, putting the proper identity management strategy in place can:
- Provide you with visibility and an inventory of dormant accounts, so that you can prevent hackers from getting into orphaned accounts
- Facilitate better controls over sign-on and admin access, so that you can monitor logins from erroneous places
- Help to re-position IT Staff from a reactive mode to a more controlled proactive operation
