Sure, your employees understand the importance of your Data Governance Policy, everyone is on-board. How do you know? Do you conduct reviews? What do you review and how often?
It’s not just enough to say that you have a policy in place. There has to be some way to ensure that your policies are being followed. The only way to track your Data Governance Policy is to conduct periodic reviews. But, what does that mean? Many organizations put in place automated, quarterly entitlement reviews with the owners of data. Also, tools should be used to coordinate information – does your HR system have the same data as your other systems? Conduct internal audits, better you than an outside agency.
Making sure that all the hard work you did to create a clean environment doesn’t go to waste is important. You don’t want to have to re-do all of the efforts to make sure that you understand what you have, who has access and who is utilizing the access. Periodic reviews enable you to make sure that policies are working.
