Newark, New Jersey, May 25, 2021 – CEO and Founder Rita Gurevich has been recognized as a Security Executive of the Year finalist in the 2022 SC Awards. Now in its 25th year, the SC Awards are cybersecurity’s most prestigious and competitive program. Finalists are recognized for outstanding solutions, organizations, and people driving innovation and success in information security.
Gurevich started SPHERE in 2010 to tackle the security and manageability issues with unstructured data. Prior to founding the company, Rita was part of a team at Lehman Brothers in the wake of its bankruptcy, faced with the challenge of de-segregating and dispersing all the IT assets including data, systems, applications, servers, and platforms. It was here that she noticed a major area of need—securing sensitive data and creating the right governance processes in large, highly regulated organizations.
“Rita and her fellow Excellence award finalists reflect astonishing levels of innovative leadership across the information security industry, and underscore vendor resilience and responsiveness to a rapidly evolving threat landscape,” said Jill Aitoro, Senior Vice President of Content Strategy at CyberRisk Alliance. “We are so proud to recognize leading people, products and companies through a trusted program that continues to attract both new entrants and industry mainstays that come back year after year.”
At SPHERE, Gurevich embodies the qualities of a true leader and a distinguished cybersecurity expert. Her ability to challenge the status quo in a primitive market, while overcoming various obstacles facing a female CEO, has led her to rapid success within the industry. Gurevich’s entrepreneurial enthusiasm around security technology and her devotion to helping others are a rare combination that contributes excellent leadership to not only SPHERE, but the industry as a whole.
“I am so honored and humbled to be recognized by the SC Awards as an industry leader within an elite group of cyber leaders who share the same mission of protecting private and public sectors from cyber crime,” says Gurevich. “What makes this distinguished honor so meaningful is being able to lead and foster a culture of authenticity and genuinity at SPHERE, which wouldn’t be possible without our passionate, accomplished and dedicated team members who continue to exceed expectations and business goals.”
The 2022 SC Awards were the most competitive to date, with a record 800 entries received across 38 categories—a 21% increase over 2021. Entries for the SC Awards were judged by a world-class panel of industry leaders, from sectors including healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, consulting, and education, among others. Winners will be announced during SC Awards week, scheduled to begin on August 22, 2022. A Meet the Winners networking reception celebration will take place during InfoSec World 2022, September 27th in Orlando, Florida.
This announcement comes just before Gurevich’s participation in an upcoming expert panel about managing the talent shortage in cybersecurity at the 2022 RSA Conference in San Francisco, CA, on June 6, 2022.
